What is Dabbing? The 101 on Dabbing

CBD has been said to help relieve health conditions ranging from nausea to depression. Many people see it as the new miracle supplement with multiple health benefits and the versatility to treat an array of ailments. The health market is becoming overwhelmed with incredible CBD products like oils and edibles of all kinds. While these products have proven to be not only enjoyable but also very effective for many people, others need something more.

There are a number of people who have turned to CBD as a medical decision. They are desperate for relief and see the power in CBD,  but past products have not been enough to completely ease their symptoms. More and more of these people are asking, “what is dabbing?”

Dabbing has been successful at easing peoples symptoms where other forms of CBD have fallen short. It is essentially a method of inhaling vaporized CBD but is different than vaping.

The CBD used in this method is highly concentrated and extremely potent, which seems to increase its effectiveness. Dabbing is not for everyone, but if you think it could be the right method for you, or you have been asking, “what is dabbing,” let us help you with this complete guide on dabbing.

First off, if you are new to CBD let’s quickly cover some essential information you will need to know for the rest of this article. Knowing what CBD and THC are and their differences will help you better understand how CBD and the dabbing method may help you.

What is CBD?

Hemp plants were used by our ancestors for centuries for their therapeutic and medicinal properties. Hemp plants are full of vitamins, flavonoids, and cannabinoids. CBD or “cannabidiol”  is one of over one hundred cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. The cannabinoid CBD, in particular, has been found to have exceptional health benefits.

CBD works with the body’s endocannabinoid system activating receptors all over the body providing relief where you need it most. CBD has no psychoactive effects and is considered legal by the federal government in all 50 states.

At Intrinsic Hemp, our CBD is extracted from quality hemp plants using the latest supercritical CO2 extraction process. This process removes the CBD and other desired plant materials from the hemp plant to formulate our CBD products.

These products will have either CBD isolate which is the purest form of CBD containing no other cannabinoid or plant materials, or full spectrum CBD which contains CBD along with other beneficial cannabinoids, vitamins, and flavonoids.

What is THC?

Hemp plants are a part of the cannabis plant family. Another part of the cannabis plant family is marijuana. Marijuana and hemp look very similar and have similar properties. However, they differ in their THC content.

THC is also a cannabinoid, and it is said to have many beneficial properties as well. However, THC is the natural chemical found in cannabis plants that causes psychoactive effects or a high. Products containing more than .3% THC are not legal in all 50 states.

CBD products that are extracted from marijuana and contain more than .3% THC can get a person high. Although they are legal in some states like California and Colorado, products containing more than .3% THC are not legal nationwide.

CBD products extracted from industrial hemp and contain less than .3% will not get a person high and is considered legal nationwide. It is essential to know whether or not the CBD product you are purchasing has been extracted from industrial hemp or marijuana to ensure you get a product to fit your needs.

What are Dabs?

You have probably heard of different forms of CBD such as edibles or CBD oils. However, CBD dab is a relatively new form of CBD that is growing in popularity. Depending on the product, a CBD dab may contain zero THC or extremely high amounts of THC, as much as even 90%.

Dabbing is also a popular method for people who prefer marijuana over hemp. This is why it is essential to read product descriptions to make sure the product you are buying has high amounts of CBD and only trace amounts of THC.

The consistency and texture of dabs vary depending on the type of dab you use. Dabs consist of extremely powerful concentrated CBD and can come in different forms, here are the most popular.

CBD Wax

CBD wax is produced by treating CBD extract so that is becomes solidified or crystallized. This wax can come in several different forms. You can purchase CBD wax which is typically an amber colored wax that is coarse and crumbles. Or, there is CBD shatter, crumble and budder. Each form of wax very much resembles its name. Budder is much like peanut butter with a dough like consistency. Shatter is almost like amber glass,  and crumble, well, crumbles.

CBD Dab Oil

Also known as honey oil, this dab is a thick amber or dark gold liquid. This concentrate is different than the typical CBD oil you would take sublingually or CBD vape oils. You can not use typical CBD oils for dabbing, it must be a highly concentrated form of CBD oil meant to be dabbed.

CBD Crystal

CBD crystals are pure CBD isolates that can be dabbed. They go through a unique extraction process that takes concentrated CBD isolate and turns it into crystals that can be dabbed or used in topicals and edibles. The crystals are odorless, tasteless, and very versatile. They are highly purified and do not contain any other plant materials other than CBD.

Is Dabbing Legal?

Dabbing has proven to be an effective method of using CBD for many people. Unfortunately, the method has been misunderstood by many people as well.

Dabbing requires specific equipment or “dabbing rigs” that come in all kinds. Some of which requires a blowtorch similar to what a person would use when making a creme brulee. When a person is using the dabbing rig and blowtorch to dab, it can look like the person is using illegal drugs. However, when using a CBD dab that contains less than .3% THC, dabbing is legal.

CBD products that are extracted from industrial hemp and contain less than .3% THC are legal in all 50 states. Because dabs are fairly new, they can be difficult to find in CBD stores but can be found online. It may be easier for people who live in a state that has allowed the use of recreational marijuana or the use of hemp and CBD for a more extended period of time to find dab in stores. How are Dabs Made?

CBD dabs are made differently depending on what type you are going to use. A wax, for example, is made differently than an oil. However, the CBD extract itself, before it is made into wax, oil, or crystal is typically extracted from hemp using one of two popular methods. There is the liquid solvent method and the CO2 extraction method. Either method can produce full spectrum CBD or CBD isolate. After the extraction is done, the concentrated CBD can be left as an oil, solidified, or crystallized into a variety of dabs.

Liquid Solvent

In this method, a liquid solvent like butane is run through the plant material stripping out the cannabinoids. The liquid is then evaporated leaving the concentrated cannabinoids in the form of an oil.

CO2 Extraction

During this complicated process, a machine called a ‘closed loop extractor’ uses CO2 at different temperatures and pressures to strip the cannabinoids leaving a concentrated oil. This method is believed by experts to be the superior method of producing the highest quality CBD.

How Do You Dab?

When dabbing, you are essentially placing a concentrated form a CBD on a hot surface and inhaling the vapor that is created when the CBD evaporates.

Dabbing rigs come in all sizes and styles. With whatever rig you choose it is always recommended to start small and increase the dosage as needed. One bonus to dabbing is that this method allows each person to easily fine-tune his or her dosage. Here is a quick look at a few of the devices you can use when you dab.

Oil Rigs

These are also known as dab rigs and are the most common piece of dabbing equipment. An oil rig is a water pipe consisting of a nail, dome, and holder. The nail is the part of the rig where the CBD concentrate is vaporized. These rigs are specifically designed for concentrated CBD oil and not other CBD oils.

When using, you place the concentrated CBD in the holder, heat the nail with the blowtorch, and set the dome in place. The vapor is created when the red-hot nail makes contact with the concentrate. When the vapor is released you simply inhale.

Vaporizers

There are many different forms of vaporizers or dab pens. Dab pens are slightly different from vape pens and should only be used for dabbing. Regardless of the type you use, they all have a heating element like a coil which heats the concentrate to the correct temperature—no need for a blow torch here. You then inhale the vapor using a mouthpiece. These are said to work best with wax or oil.

Atom Bomb Rigs

These rigs combine the benefits of water pipes and vaporizers. With this method, a battery heated device heats the concentrate to the right temperature to be vaporized. Then, you inhale the vapor like you would from a water pipe.

Vaping Vs. Dabbing

There seems to be an ongoing debate on which is best, vaping CBD or dabbing CBD. While both methods are similar as far as inhaling CBD, they are different.

The most crucial difference is that dabbing uses a much more potent form of CBD that vaping. If you suffer from abnormal or excessive pain, anxiety, depression, or insomnia, and have not had success with traditional uses of CBD such as vape, dabbing might be the right solution for you.

However, it is important to be prepared that the effects of dabbing will be much stronger than what you have experienced using vape or other CBD methods.

Benefits of Dabbing

When it comes to the benefits of the dabbing method, the biggest advantage is that you get a much more potent dose of CBD than you would using any other method. This is especially great for people with chronic pain. Dabbing also provides almost instant relief where other methods, especially edibles, may take time.

CBD has been known to help relieve numerous health ailments such as:

        Anxiety disorders

        Sleep disorders

        Chronic pain

        Skin conditions

        Depression

        Inflammation

        Nausea

        Epilepsy

What to Expect When You Dab

When using CBD, many people say they feel less stressed and more relaxed. Others use CBD to combat the medical issues mentioned above. You may have used CBD products before and may have also tried different methods of using CBD, but if you have never dabbed before you may be wondering what to expect.

When dabbing for the first time, you should expect to feel the effects of the CBD almost immediately. You should also expect the effects to be much stronger than what you have experienced in the past. If you know what to expect, dabbing CBD can be a great new method to try.

Stick to High-Quality CBD Dabs

While dabbing is safe, it should be used with caution not only because of potency but also because you may be handling a blowtorch depending on the method.

Always be sure to buy from a reputable company. Research reviews on the company as well as their products. Read product descriptions carefully to ensure you get a product that is legal and won’t get you high. Choose quality CBD dabs from a trustworthy company to make sure you are purchasing an effective product without unnecessary or even dangerous additives.

If you have tried CBD oils and edibles in the past and loved the benefits but need something more, try CBD dabbing and find out what it can do for you.
